Mr. Arata is one of only four attorneys in Indiana Board Certified in “Criminal Trial Advocacy” by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is a “Sustaining Member” of the National College for DUI Defense. He is also a “Life” member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In addition, he has been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in criminal defense/DUI defense annually from 2005 to present. Mr. Arata has been practicing Federal Criminal Defense in Indiana since 1981 and was trial counsel for Dewey Jones v. U.S.A. wherein Mr. Jones’ 35 year sentence and conviction was reversed 9-0 by the U.S. Supreme Court due to Mr. Arata’s argument at trial that the Federal Government lacked jurisdiction to prosecute Mr. Jones on an arson charge.
