Background and Experience
Tangi Carter earned her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the Mississippi College School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. Having practiced in Florida and Tennessee, she is proud to be back home in South Mississippi. As a former Federal and State Public Defender, she successfully handled numerous trials, pleas, sentencings, bail hearings, arraignments, docket calls, motion hearings and probation violations. She previously worked for a DUI defense firm in which she handled DUI cases throughout Northwest Florida. Tangi was previously a staff attorney and court administrator for Judge Prentiss G. Harrell for almost 3 years and worked closely with his Drug Court.
As an active member of several legal organizations, Tangi stays up-to-date on current events within the legal community. She is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a member of the South Central Mississippi Bar Association and a member of the National College of DUI Defense Lawyers. She is a former member of the Inns of Court and the former President of the Society of Criminal Defense Lawyers. She taught in the Legal Studies Department at Pensacola Jr. College for five years.
Tangi Carter is a member of the Criminal Justice Act (“CJA”) Panel. The CJA Panel is a group of qualified and court-appointed attorneys who are eligible for appointment by the Federal Court to represent individuals in criminal cases who are unable for financial reasons to obtain counsel. Panel Attorneys must have demonstrated experience in, and knowledge of, the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, the Federal Rules of Evidence and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
